Postage Stamp Collecting

I love to stamp collect. As you probably know you don't get postage stamps that often. So then how do you go about collecting stamps? You should start collecting just all the stamps that come in the mail. When you get really into it, you can then select a category or a certain topic and collect just stamps that fit into that topic. If you pick birds, for example, then you could collect birds stamps, cancellations with birds, and even envelops with bird artwork in the corner.  You could also  narrow it down and maybe collect only hummingbirds.

Then you probably would want to show it to other people so you can make a nice way to format it on a page and you should have a little information about the category. Then you can display your project or collection at a stamp show. A stamp show is basically is where a bunch of stamp collectors get together and show their stamp collections.

I like to collect birds but now I am narrowing it down just to owls. I am getting some of my stamps from Ebay. Ebay is a really easy way of getting stamps. You can Learn a lot from stamp collecting.

Here is some pics of my stamp collection

Happy collecting :) (:

A Trip with Grandma

When we were on a road trip with grandma I got to get better at taking pictures. Now I am really good at taking pictures.

This is a picture that I took. It is of a long meadow, and it is were the  McKenzie  River starts just as a little spring.

This is a up close picture of a flower that hangs upside down.  I had to put my camera upside down and I didn't know how it was going to turn out. So I think I got really lucky.

This is a Indian paint brush flower. I think it is called that because the Indians used it to make red paint with it or it could be because of the shape.

This is Queen's an Lace. It has lots of little flowers in one big flower.

This is a Butterfly of some sort.  The key to taking a picture of a Butterfly is always be ready  take a picture so when it opens it's wings you can snap it really fast.

This is a flower that is just starting to open up. When it is opens it is going to look kind of like a Indian Paint brush but it is only going to be pink.

Here are some river pictures. The 2nd one has two rivers that are coming together  and the other two are close ups of the river.

Dog Creek Falls

Dog Creek Falls is a creek 30 min north of Redding that feeds into the Sacramento River. It has a beach of river rocks that have very cool colors and shapes. I found a rock that I call the leaf rock because it looks like a leaf and another rock that is shaped like a nail.
At Dog Creek there is also a natural slide into a small pool. Is that cool or what?  It was too cold for me to slide down the natural slide but I did find a frog.  A little later, my brother was trying to catch a baby water strider and when he couldn't, he threw the plastic tub towards me but it landed in the river and it was gone before we could get it.  We both felt very bad.  We didn't mean to litter.  When we come next time, we are going to pick up the trash that others left.

This is how you get there:
First, you get on the freeway that heads north until you come to Exit 707,  then take it. Come to the end of the exit and turn left.  Continue under the freeway until you get to a street called Fender Ferry Road.  Turn left onto Fender Ferry, drive approximately two miles across three bridges, and then park. Follow a trail downstream of the bridge.  Caution! The road to get there is a bumpy, dirt road.

My Snow Experiments

One day, there were snowflakes falling.  So I decided to get two plastic tubs.  I filled one of them with fresh new snow and the other with old snow.  I did not pack them down.  Then I took them inside and waited for each one to melt. I wanted to find out which one had the most water.  My hypothesis was that they would have the same amount of water.
I let it melt and later came back to look at them.  The fresh, new snow had the least amount of water.  The old snow had the most amount of water.

While I waited, I took a black piece of paper outside and caught some snowflakes.   I could see many different kinds of snowflakes.  My favorite is the one at the top.  Here is a fun website to learn more about snowflakes.
